Puttalam District Parliamentarian Ali Sabri who was issued an arrest warrant by Puttalam District Judge and Magistrate Ayona Wimalaratne yesterday attended a ceremony at Kalpitiya Al Aksha National School as a distinguished invitee, the residents of the area said.
The magistrate had issued the open warrant to arrest him for evading court on three occasions in connection with a case against him filed by a NGO in Puttalam.
OIC Kalpitiya Police IP Wasantha Sirilal, when queried about allowing the MP to frequent in public regardless of the arrest warrant, said that he expected the MP to surrender to court.
Governor North Western Province Ahmed Nazeer was also present at the ceremony.
