As pledged by the All Island Canteen and Restaurant Owners’ Association (AICROA), food prices will be reduced starting tonight, in response to the recent revision of electricity tariffs.
Association President Harshana Rukshan announced that the prices for popular dishes will be lowered: a plate of rice and curry, fried rice, and kottu will see a reduction of Rs. 25, while short eats, paratha, and egg roti will drop by Rs. 10. The price of a cup of plain tea will decrease by Rs. 5.
The association has urged customers to report any establishments that do not adhere to the new pricing or fail to display the updated prices to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA).
In addition, AICROA has called on the government to impose price controls on Keeri Samba rice, Samba rice, eggs, and chicken.
The association has committed to an additional 25 percent price reduction for consumers if such measures are implemented.
