An inmate's death from meningitis, commonly known as brain fever, has led to significant activity restrictions at Galle Prison.
Prison Health Services Director Dr. Hemantha Ranasinghe confirmed the fatality and announced that three additional inmates have been admitted to Karapitiya Hospital for treatment after showing symptoms of the disease.
In response to the outbreak, prison authorities have swiftly implemented various health guidelines to manage and contain the situation.
Dr. Ranasinghe stated that investigations are underway to identify the source and extent of the meningitis outbreak within the facility.
