Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kavinda Jayawardene has lodged a complaint with the CID against a social media post which he claimed had mentioned false information about him and his family.

“I have lodged a formal complaint with the police regarding cybercrime incidents involving online harassment, defamation, and the spread of false information about me and my family members. These actions violate my fundamental rights as protected by the Constitution of Sri Lanka and constitute criminal offenses under various laws,” the MP said.

“A Facebook page named "Adsensep" has published a fabricated article using my name and my family members' names, containing false accusations while a WhatsApp group called "Go Sajith Go Home" is being used to spread rumors, with an individual named Thilina Danushka Abewikrama involved,” the MP said

“These actions violate a number of laws and right including article 12 of the constitution which guarantee the right to equality and freedom from discrimination. Sections 345, 479 and 483 of the penal code, section 13 of Computer Crimes Act no 14 of 2007,” he added.

The MP requested the CID to investigate the matter , identify the individuals responsible for creating and spreading false information, take appropriate legal action against the perpetrators under the aforementioned laws and assist in removing the defamatory content from online platforms.
