Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel have arrested two suspects involved in a recent Kolonna shooting, seizing firearms allegedly used in the crime.
The STF said that Ramanayakage Indika Kumara, known as ‘Kale Mahinda’, and Jayawardena Abeysinghe Pathiranage Sandakelum Jayawardena were arrested near a garment factory in Middeniya.
They were found in possession of two locally manufactured ‘Galkatas’ firearms, live ammunition, heroin, a suspected getaway motorcycle, and mobile phones.
The suspects, linked to “Rotumba Amila”, are believed to have carried out the shooting in retaliation for a prior assault on one of Amila’s relatives.
Investigations revealed Amila funded the attack with cash and heroin, and has ties to Makandure Madush's criminal group.
The suspects have past convictions for robbery, assault, and murder, with ongoing court cases.
