Yesterday's shooting in Athurugiriya, which claimed two lives including that of 'Club Wasantha,' prompted Athurugiriya Police to gather statements from six individuals involved.
Among those who provided statements was the owner of the tattoo shop where the incident occurred near the Clock Tower in Athurugiriya.
During their investigation, police discovered that Rs. 1 million had been deposited into the tattoo owner's account from Dubai. Authorities suspect this money was intended to facilitate the murder of Club Wasantha. The owner informed police that the funds were sent by friends in Dubai to purchase goods for the tattoo shop.
Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said that further investigation will determine whether the money was legitimately intended for shop equipment or if it was an advance for a contract killing.
The shooting occurred during the opening of a tattoo and piercing studio, resulting in the hospitalization of six individuals. Surendra Wasantha Perera, 55, known as 'Club Wasantha,' and a 38-year-old male succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at the hospital.
Singer K. Sujeewa sustained serious leg injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the National Hospital in Colombo. Both Club Wasantha's wife and the tattoo shop owner's wife were also injured.
Police suspect underworld figure Kanjipani Imran may have orchestrated the shooting. A revolver was recovered from Club Wasantha's belongings following the incident.
The police located the van used by the assailants to flee the scene in the Bulathsinghala area last night.
