Investigations have uncovered that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sanjeeva Mahanama fled the country as he faced imminent arrest for allegedly orchestrating the shooting incident involving the vehicle of SLPP Anuradhapura District MP Uddika Premaratne.
It was reported that ASP Mahanama, who had recently amassed considerable wealth, maintained close ties with senior police officials, suggesting his hasty departure to Malaysia was prompted by advance notice of his impending arrest.
Authorities also disclosed that ASP Mahanama had been leading a lavish lifestyle and had acquired valuable properties in recent times.
