Former President Maithripala Sirisena appeared before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today (May 3) to record a statement.

It was reported that Sirisena spent two hours at the CID, providing information regarding the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

This follows a previous five-hour statement given by Sirisena on March 25, prompted by Public Security Minister Tiran Alles ordering an immediate investigation into Sirisena's remarks about the culprits behind the Easter Attacks, which had sparked controversy.

On March 22, Sirisena, who was in office during the bombings, stirred controversy by claiming he knew the true masterminds of the attacks. He also indicated his willingness to share relevant information while stressing the judges' responsibility to maintain strict confidentiality.

Sirisena faced criticism for allegedly withholding crucial information about the bombings that killed over 250 people. However, he later clarified that his statement was based on information he had received three weeks prior.
