In preparation for Good Friday and Easter Sunday services, a comprehensive security plan has been implemented across churches nationwide. A total of 6,837 police personnel, 464 Special Task Force (STF) personnel, and 2,882 Tri-Forces personnel have been mobilized to ensure the safety of worshippers and maintain security arrangements.
The security measures include thorough inspections of church premises before sermons begin, with body searches conducted if deemed necessary. Special attention is being given to churches that expect large crowds during these religious observances.
Today, on Good Friday, Christians around the world commemorate the sacrifice, death, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Observances typically include fasting and attending church services. Catholic churches are set to hold a three-hour service in remembrance of this significant day.
Easter Sunday, marking the resurrection of Jesus, will be celebrated on the 31st of April this year. As part of the security plan, Police Spokesman DIG Attorney Nihal Thalduwa assured the public of a special security program surrounding all churches during these services to ensure the safety of worshippers.
Additionally, Traffic Police have been deployed to manage traffic flow effectively, and additional Tri-Forces personnel will be deployed as needed to bolster security measures. These efforts aim to facilitate peaceful and secure religious observances for all attendees.
