In a strategic move to stimulate direct and indirect employment opportunities, the Sri Lankan government is prioritizing the promotion of ship registration under the national flag.
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal set forth by the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation, signaling the government's intent to invite both domestic and foreign investors to register ships under the Sri Lankan flag.
Under the approved plan, the government will issue calls for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and proposals, inviting qualified investors to participate. The selection process will involve thorough evaluation by both a Technical Evaluation Committee and a Procurement Committee, ensuring the identification of the most suitable investor.
Highlighting the economic significance of ship registration, the government emphasized that it serves as a crucial source of foreign exchange for the country. Additionally, it has the potential to create numerous employment opportunities, both directly and indirectly.
