In February of this year, Sri Lanka saw a substantial increase in income generated from the export of coconut water, reaching Rs. 3,439 million, as reported by the Coconut Development Authority (CDA).
This marks a significant rise from the Rs. 2,705 million earned in February 2023, according to CDA data.
Chairing a discussion on this matter, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera highlighted the positive trend, noting a noteworthy increase of Rs. 734 million in export income during the pre-spring months of this year compared to the previous year.
During the discussion, CDA Chairman Professor Roshan Perera pointed out the potential for even greater revenue growth, emphasizing the need to address annual losses of Rs. 300 million incurred due to damages caused by wildlife to coconut crops.
Minister Amaraweera echoed this sentiment, suggesting that mitigating such losses could lead to further income gains for coconut growers.
