
Sri Lankan family donates Rs. 470 Mn ICU beds to Government

A Sri Lankan family residing in Canada has donated a total of 157 state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds to the Sri Lankan government. The estimated worth of the donation stands at over Rs. 470 million.
The initiative, spurred by Rev. Fr. Darrel Coonghe, Director and Founder of Supuwath Arana in Seeduwa, culminated in a ceremony held at the Colombo Logistics Terminals (Pvt) Ltd in Welisara on March 21.
According to the Ministry of Health, these ICU beds will be distributed across 34 hospitals nationwide, including prominent institutions such as Negombo, Ragama Teaching Hospital, Chilaw, Puttalam, Seeduwa, Gampaha, Jaffna, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Kurunegala.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Sri Lankan government, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Minister of Health, extended thanks to Patrick Nilkamal Fernando and his family in Canada for their substantial contribution. Dr. Pathirana emphasized the significance of these beds, equipped with cutting-edge technology, in bolstering the country's critical care infrastructure.
