The Supreme Court has ordered the remand of a lawyer accused of contemptuous behavior within its premises. The court further directed the prison authorities to present the lawyer before the court again on April 3rd. Additionally, the court has suspended the attorney from practicing law until the conclusion of the case.
Allegations state that Attorney-At-Law Susil Priyantha Jayatunga repeatedly disregarded directives from the Supreme Court during his submissions, demonstrating contempt towards the highest judicial authority.
The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Gamini Amarasekera, and Kumuduni Wickremasinghe, has instructed the Attorney General to draft a rule against the lawyer and submit it on the next hearing date. Furthermore, the court has directed the prison authorities to arrange for the lawyer to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to assess his health condition.
