The Colombo Magistrate Court has banned two Indian team managers participating in the Legends Cricket Trophy in Sri Lanka from leaving the country. This decision came after the Special Investigations Unit of the Sports Ministry filed a complaint regarding match-fixing allegations.
A retired Sri Lankan cricketer and a New Zealand cricketer have accused the two managers of approaching them to fix matches in the ongoing Legends Cricket Tournament in Kandy. The Sports Ministry's Special Investigations Unit is currently conducting further inquiries into this complaint.
Sri Lanka was the first South Asian nation to criminalize various offenses related to match-fixing. Offenders could face up to 10 years in jail and fines of up to $555,000 for match-fixing under laws introduced by Sports Minister Harin Fernando in 2019.
