Sri Lanka Department of Railways in collaboration with Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel under the complete digitization of the train ticket booking process of railway passengers and government employees, The introduction of e-tickets and e-train license system was launched for the first time in Sri Lanka under the leadership of the Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media, Dr. Bandula Gunawardena. Happened at the Colombo Fort railway station premises.
Under this new system, regular trains and travelers will be able to purchase their tickets online very easily using the new e-ticketing system. After booking the train ticket online, the passengers can use the e-ticket with the QR code received on the phone as a regular train ticket up to the destination. Accordingly, this system will avoid many inconveniences faced by the passengers while coming to the railway station and getting the reserved tickets.
