The responsibility for internal security and rescue operations on expressways has been transferred to Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Limited (RALL). This decision comes after the Police Special Task Force, which had been fulfilling these duties until now, stepped down from its role.
According to the Road Development Authority (RDA), officers from Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Limited have been deployed for road safety operations since Wednesday, the 13th of March. The transition of security operations to RALL comes with an estimated monthly expense of around Rs. 12 million.
However, the RDA said the security and rescue operations of the section between Mirigama and Kurunegala along the Central Expressway were assigned to local authorities.
