The Colombo High Court Judge Nawaratna Marasinghe dismissed the preliminary objections raised by former Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and two other accused who were charged on corruption charges by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for misappropriating public funds while purchasing of GI pipes using the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) funds during the 2015 Presidential Election time.
The CIABOC had filed indictments against former Media Minister Rambukwella. The former SLRC Director General and former SLRC Chairman under Section 70 of the Bribery Act.
The Bribery Commission accused them for committing a loss of Rs. 990,000 to the SLRC by unnecessarily purchasing 600 lengths of GI pipes during the period December 2014.
However the accused raised a preliminary objection that the indictment filed in the court was bad in law as proper procedure was not followed in filing the charges. They contended that the charge sheet was not endorsed by the three Directors of the Commission according to the Bribery Act.
