The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has initiated its second review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program for Sri Lanka, commencing today, March 7th, with an opening meeting scheduled with President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe, using his official handle on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), highlighted the significance of this development, terming it a crucial milestone in the government's ongoing efforts to bolster stability and economic growth.

Semasinghe expressed optimism regarding the outcome of the review process, stating the government's anticipation of a successful review and the attainment of a staff-level agreement. Such an agreement would pave the way for accessing the third tranche of funds under the EFF program.

He emphasized that the achievement of a staff-level agreement would serve to accelerate Sri Lanka's growth trajectory, instilling greater confidence in the economy among stakeholders and investors alike.
