Santosh Jha, the High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka, has expressed optimism about the swift recommencement of the Nagapattinam-Kankesanthurai (KKS) ferry service in the coming weeks.
He also revealed ongoing efforts to revive ferry services between Talaimannar and Rameswaram.
During his visit to the KKS Port and Talaimannar Pier, High Commissioner Jha emphasized the urgency of resuming ferry operations between the two nations. His remarks underscored the importance of facilitating convenient and efficient transportation links between India and Sri Lanka.
High Commissioner Jha's inaugural official trip to Sri Lanka's Northern Province from February 15th to 17th included a range of engagements highlighting the enduring bilateral partnership between the two countries. The Indian High Commission issued a statement affirming India's steadfast commitment to strengthening socio-economic and cultural ties with the Northern Province.
Connectivity initiatives emerged as a central focus during the visit, aligning with the vision outlined in the bilateral economic partnership document issued in July 2023. High Commissioner Jha particularly emphasized enhancing air connectivity by exploring infrastructure development opportunities at Palaly Airport.
The visit signifies India's dedication to fostering closer ties with Sri Lanka, especially in the realm of transportation and connectivity, which are crucial for promoting economic growth and cultural exchange between the two nations.
