President Ranil Wickremesinghe has declared health services as an essential public service.
This declaration, made under Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act, No. 61 of 1979, implies the critical importance of uninterrupted health service provision to the well-being of the community.
The decree, outlined in a gazette notice, specifies that health services provided by any Public Corporation, Government Department, Local Authority, Co-operative Society, or their respective branches, are deemed essential to the life of the community.
