L.K. Jagath Priyankara has taken the oath as a Member of Parliament, stepping into the position left vacant following the tragic passing of State Minister Sanath Nishantha, who represented the Puttalam constituency.

The swearing-in ceremony took place before Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena as the parliamentary session commenced at 9:30 a.m. this morning (February 8th). Priyankara, a member of the National Freedom Front (Jathika Nidahas Peramuna), led by MP Wimal Weerawansa, pledged to serve his constituents and uphold parliamentary duties with diligence.

The sudden demise of State Minister Sanath Nishantha, aged 48, and his security officer occurred in a tragic accident on the Colombo-Katunayake expressway on January 25th. While the lawmaker's security officer and driver met untimely fates in the crash, his driver miraculously survived.

With Priyankara assuming office, the Parliament aims to ensure uninterrupted representation for the Puttalam constituency while honoring the legacy of the late State Minister Nishantha.
