President Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken a strategic step in preparation for the upcoming Presidential election by appointing a Steering Committee. Renowned President's Counsel Ronald Perera, currently serving as the Chairman of the Bank of Ceylon (BOC), has been named as the committee's chairman.
The committee includes key figures such as Lasantha Gunawardena, Colombo District Manager of the United National Party (UNP), Shamal Senarath, Executive Director of Sirikotha (the UNP Headquarters), and Krishan Theodor, a Working Committee member of the party. Their responsibilities encompass coordinating with political parties supporting Wickremesinghe and managing propaganda activities.
President Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the UNP leader, has instructed the committee to identify a suitable venue for the mobilization of his election campaign. Additionally, he has directed them to formulate a comprehensive management plan for the campaign. Further collaborations with additional groups are reportedly in the pipeline as the President seeks a coordinated and effective election strategy.
