In a concerted effort to curb the production of banned polythene and plastic items, the Central Environment Authority (CEA) conducted inspections on over 7,000 institutions throughout the past year.

Ajith Weerasundara, Deputy Director General of the Waste Management Division of the CEA, reported that strict legal measures have been taken against more than 180 institutions found in violation of laws pertaining to the production of prohibited materials.

The CEA's proactive approach aims to address environmental concerns associated with the widespread use and production of non-biodegradable materials.
