As part of reducing legal migration to the country, the United Kingdom's new rules, restricting international students starting courses this month to bring dependents, came into force on 1st of January2024
However, overseas students on postgraduate research courses and students pursuing courses with government-funded scholarships are exempt from the restrictions.
Earlier British Home Secretary James Cleverly said the “unreasonable practice” of international students bringing their families to the UK will end as restrictions on visa routes come into force.
A near-eightfold rise in the number of family members joining foreign students led the UK government to announce the ban last year for those not studying "high-value" degrees under government plans.
