Police Sergeant Upul Chaminda, of the Colombo Crimes Division, who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident during a raid in Weligama, has been posthumously promoted. 

The incident occurred on December 31, resulting in the Sergeant's untimely death and injuries to a Sub-Inspector.

In recognition of Sergeant Upul Chaminda's dedication and sacrifice, the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has approved the posthumous promotion with effect from December 31. 

The decision was made in acknowledgment of the officer's commitment to duty and the ultimate sacrifice made while on duty during the Weligama raid.
