In a significant stride against drug-related crimes, the Sri Lanka Police, in collaboration with the Police Special Task Force (STF), has apprehended more than 20,000 suspects during the past 14 days as part of the ‘Yukthiya’ operation, announces the Public Security Ministry.
The operation has not only led to the arrests but has also triggered financial asset investigations against 189 suspects. Rehabilitation measures are being taken for 1,298 individuals, while detention orders have been secured for 1,018 suspects, as revealed by the ministry.
In a parallel move, the Illegal Assets and Properties Investigation Division of the police has seized assets totaling Rs. 558.5 million belonging to notorious criminal figures and drug traffickers.
Simultaneously, the Public Security Ministry discloses that the total estimated street value of the confiscated drugs during this operation is a staggering Rs. 858 million.
The drugs impounded in the special island-wide operations include:
- 11kg 600g of heroin
- 08kg 378g of methamphetamine (‘Ice’)
- 297kg 8g of Cannabis
- 2,110,500 Cannabis plants
- 119kg 600g of ‘Mawa’
- 35kg 800g of HASH
- 01kg 70g of Hashish
- 03kg 700g of ‘Thul’
- 555g of Kush cannabis
- 72,272 narcotic pills
