The Carlsberg Ridge in the Indian Ocean experienced a series of four powerful earthquakes near the Maldives, on Friday morning (Dec. 29).

Nilmini Thaldena, Senior Seismologist at the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB), confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to Sri Lanka. 

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported magnitudes of 4.8, 5.2, 5.8, and 5.0 for the consecutive quakes, with depths ranging from 7.7km to 10km.
