The primary suspect, the proprietor of 'Regal Sales,' who leased an office at BMICH, is still on the run in connection with a financial fraud exceeding Rs. 45 million through a deceptive car dealership scheme.
According to police, the suspect and accomplices rented an office at BMICH in Colombo, advertising vehicles for sale in newspapers. Two buyers responded to the ad with the intention of purchasing a car and a jeep on December 20.
Upon arrival at BMICH, the buyers were met by the office manager and organization head, who insisted on payment before initiating necessary documentation for the vehicle sales. One buyer handed over Rs. 12.5 million, while the other provided Rs. 33 million.
Subsequently, the owner, who received the money, entered a room inside the premises, assuring the delivery of the vehicle keys and documents, only to vanish through the back door.
In response to the aggrieved buyers' complaint, the police initiated an investigation, resulting in the apprehension of three key suspects—the manager, assistant manager, and cashier of the company.
A travel ban has been imposed on the elusive primary suspect, preventing him from leaving the country.
