The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) acknowledged responsibility for the recent nationwide power disruptions, as stated by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) on December 27.
The PUCSL cited the CEB's failure to restore power for over 5 hours after a significant outage earlier this month, deeming it a problematic situation.
The CEB explained its inability to maintain an additional power generator during emergencies due to financial constraints. The PUCSL emphasized that covering maintenance costs for an extra generator would fall on the public.
On December 9, a sudden major power outage occurred at 5:10 p.m., attributed to a breakdown in the transmission line from Kotmale to Biyagama, caused by lightning strikes, according to the CEB.
