Sri Lanka has launched a special operation to apprehend and bring back these individuals engaged in drug trafficking and underworld activities abroad, Minister Alles stated. Intelligence reports have identified 29 underworld members in Dubai and one in France.
Speaking at an event in Kirindiwela, Minister Alles assured that discussions are in progress with concerned countries for the extradition of these criminals to Sri Lanka. He clarified that despite ongoing queries about the island-wide 'Yukthiya' operation, there is no decision to halt it. Minister Alles emphasized the continuation of the operation, addressing objections as hindrances to its progress.
"We aim to completely halt the underworld and drug trafficking in the country within the next six months," Minister Alles said.
Responding to questions about actions against underworld members in Dubai and France, Minister Alles acknowledged the complexity of legal procedures in these countries. He stated, "Negotiations are underway with relevant nations, and we have obtained red notices for their arrest. Despite legal challenges, we are committed to bringing them to Sri Lanka."
When pressed about guaranteeing the complete eradication of the underworld and drug trafficking within six months, Minister Alles acknowledged the difficulty but underscored the dedication to taking maximum measures against these issues. "While complete eradication may be challenging globally, we are dedicated to robust action against the underworld and drug trade," he concluded.
