A Sub Inspector of Police (SI) attached to the Kalmunai Police station has been arrested by the Bribery Commission on charges of attempting to secure a sexual bribe from a woman entangled in a court case.
The arrested officer was taken into custody at a Kalmunai hotel while in the process of soliciting the sexual bribe.
The motive behind the bribe was to obtain a favorable report for a woman who had been instructed to report to the police on a weekly basis. She sought an extension of this requirement to a monthly basis.
The Bribery Commission said that the court case involving the woman from Varipathanumchenai was scheduled for a hearing today at the Kalmunai Courts.
The suspect allegedly sought a sexual bribe from the complainant to submit an additional report to the courts in her favor. The officer also promised to facilitate the extension of the court order, changing the weekly reporting obligation to a monthly one.
