In the ongoing legal battle against the suspension of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board's registration and the appointment of an Interim Committee, the Court of Appeal convened for the third day on the 23rd. The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket, Shammi Silva, filed the petition challenging the Sports Minister's decision.*
Representing the Ministry of Sports, the Additional Solicitor General highlighted a key point. Despite the Cricket Board Chairman's assertion that the board is solely accountable to the International Cricket Council, it was pointed out that the board is registered under the Sports Act, making it accountable to the state.
The two-member bench, consisting of A. Sobitha Rajakaruna and D. N. Samarakoon, heard the case. Additional Solicitor General Milinda Gunathilaka emphasized that as a national institution, the Auditor General has the authority to investigate the affairs of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Gunathilaka further revealed that the Auditor General's report on the T20 World Cup exposed numerous instances of corruption, irregularities, and illegal activities. Allegations were made that the petitioner attempted to conceal these findings from the court.
The hearing is scheduled to continue tomorrow (24) for further consideration of the petition.
