A 72-year-old resident of Athurugiriya has been arrested for orchestrating a fraudulent scheme involving the creation of a fake power of attorney for a substantial landholding in Pannala.
The suspect allegedly seized possession of the 04 acres and 23 perches property and subsequently sold it for a staggering sum of Rs. 16 million.
The incident was reported to the Criminal Investigation Department in 2017 and the suspect involved in the incident was arrested yesterday by the Commercial Crime Investigation Unit of the CID.
The accused was granted release on Rs. 500,000 surety bail and Rs. 10,000 cash bail after produced in the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court.
