The UN children’s fund (UNICEF) says 700,000 children in Gaza have been “forced to leave everything behind” amid relentless Israeli bombardment.
More than 30 bodies have been pulled out of the rubble in northern Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp after Israeli strikes hit at least 12 homes in the Nadi Khadamat district.
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees says operations will “grind to a halt” if no fuel is allowed into the besieged Palestinian enclave by Wednesday.
All the hospitals in northern Gaza have been forced to shut down as Israeli forces continue to attack medical facilities.
More than 11,200 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. In Israel, the official death toll from Hamas’s attacks stands at more than 1,200.
teve Sosebee, the founder of the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, says the Palestinian children who had been receiving cancer treatment at al-Rantisi Hospital – the only specialised paediatric cancer facility in Gaza – now face a precarious situation.
Sosebee told Al Jazeera that it has become extremely difficult to reach the children’s families and try to coordinate their evacuation from the enclave.
“These kids are immune-suppressant so it’s very easy for them to get sick and to contract some kind of virus that could even kill them. They were in a very clean and isolated environment where they were protected,” he said.
“Now they’re out in the streets in an area where there’s no clean water, where the sewage is rampant, where the infrastructure has been destroyed, and we’re quite worried about their safety and their wellbeing.”
