The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sri Lanka, as part of a committee, has introduced the AI Readiness Assessment (AIRA) to help shape Sri Lanka's AI strategy.
The government of Sri Lanka has recognized the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and has appointed a committee under the Presidential Secretariat to oversee the development of the strategy.
The AIRA, developed by UNDP, is a tool designed to evaluate the current AI landscape in Sri Lanka and provide insights for the upcoming AI strategy.
It includes a comprehensive survey to gather input from the public sector and Key Informant Interviews to capture perspectives from various non-governmental sectors, such as academia, development partners, and the private sector.
In the third week of October 2023, a team from UNDP's Chief Digital Office (CDO) conducted interviews with key stakeholders to understand Sri Lanka's AI and digital transformation landscape.
Moreover, UNDP organized a workshop for over 80 public sector officials from various ministries and departments to launch the survey component of AIRA.
