Three individuals accused in the 2006 assassination attempt on the former Pakistani High Commissioner were acquitted and released by the Colombo High Court.
The court found insufficient evidence to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The accused faced charges related to conspiring, aiding, and abetting in the claymore bomb blast targeting the Pakistani High Commissioner in Kollupitiya.
The attack occurred on August 14, 2006, resulting in casualties, but the High Commissioner escaped unharmed. The accused had been charged under the Prevention of Terrorist Act (PTA).
