Sri Lanka's Sports Minister, Roshan Ranasinghe, has suspended the registration of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board and appointed an Interim Committee, effective from November 5.
This action comes in response to allegations of corruption, misconduct, irregularities, and dereliction of duties within the SLC's Executive Committee, as revealed by a special audit report related to the 2022 T20 World Cup.
The Interim Committee, appointed by the Minister of Sports, will remain in place until the next Sri Lanka Cricket election or until further notice, exercising powers granted under Section 33 of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973.
This committee's primary responsibility is to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities of the SLC board and submit a comprehensive report in accordance with legal principles. It is also empowered to carry out necessary investigations and implement recommendations from a special audit report issued by the Auditor General on September 11, 2023.
During the suspension of the SLC board, the Interim Committee will assume control of Sri Lanka Cricket, overseeing its operations until the investigation concludes. Furthermore, the committee will propose recommendations and procedures aimed at preventing the recurrence of corruption, misconduct, and irregularities within the SLC board.
