Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles said that the notorious criminal figure Nadun Chinthaka Wickremeratne, also known as "Harak Kata," currently held in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), attempted to bribe him with Rs. 700 million to avoid extradition to Sri Lanka.

The Minister's revelation, made in the presence of Officers-in-Charge (OICs) of police stations in the Southern Province and government officials.

Minister Alles further revealed that underworld figures are willing to offer even larger sums to oust him from his ministerial position.

Meanwhile Senior Deputy Inspector General Deshabandu Tennakoon, responsible for the Western Province, voiced concerns about police officers aiding and abetting underworld members, leading to a significant surge in criminal activities.

He emphasized that the police department has faced criticism due to the involvement of a limited number of officers with such criminal figures.
