An Inspector, Officer in Charge (OIC) of Kebithigollewa Division Crime Investigation Unit, who was critically injured after being struck by a car driven by a Woman Police Sergeant (WPS), has died while undergoing treatment this morning.
The incident occurred on October 8 at the Welankumama junction on the Anuradhapura – Trincomalee A12 highway.
Inspector Sunil Chandrasiri, a resident of Namalwewa in Mihintale, had been on a motorcycle when the collision took place. He was receiving treatment at the Anuradhapura teaching hospital but succumbed to his injuries this morning.
The WPS from Ambanpola police, responsible for the accident, was released on bail after appearing before the Anuradhapura Magistrate's court.
The Mihintale police continue to conduct further investigations into this tragic incident.
