All accused, including Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa, were acquitted in the money laundering case linked to Gowers Corporate Services (Pvt) Limited by Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe today.
The judge's decision to acquit came without the need for a defense presentation, based on prior findings of unsubstantial and untrue evidence during the proceedings.
The case, filed by the Attorney General in 2022, alleged the misappropriation of Rs. 30 million in funds, reportedly earned illegally while Rajapaksa served as a Member of Parliament through Gowers Corporate Services (Pvt) Limited, purportedly owned by him.
Judge Marasinghe pointed out that the accusations appeared to be motivated by personal grudges.
