In a collective action, all 17 state universities in Sri Lanka have initiated a token strike today, highlighting various concerns that include salary discrepancies and reduced funding allocations.
The decision to stage this strike was made during a meeting convened by the State Service Trade Unions Alliance and the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA), held at the Open University of Sri Lanka in Nawala.
Furthermore, a protest march organized by the Professionals' Trade Union Collective unfolded in Colombo, aiming to voice disapproval of the PAYE taxation and the government's perceived 'arbitrary tax policy'. This protest garnered support from influential organizations, including FUTA, GMOA (Government Medical Officers' Association), and several other trade unions.
