The Cabinet granted approval for the preparation of a bill to establish the Sri Lanka Institute of Economics and International Trade.
The Cabinet of Ministers endorsed the proposal presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the Finance Minister to publish the bill drafted for this purpose in the government gazette and subsequently seek approval from the parliament.
The primary objective of this institute include serving as a hub for research and policy development in the fields of economics, international finance, and international trade.
The Department of Government Information said the proposed institute will conduct contemporary research and studies in these domains, provide ideas to enhance economic, financial, and trade policies, and facilitate the effective promotion of international and regional trade policy integration.
