Police have announced plans to introduce the Bus Priority Lane rule starting from November 1, with a two-week grace period for bus drivers to adjust to the new regulation.
The Bus Priority Lane will be in effect during peak office commute hours in the mornings and evenings.
Under this rule, vehicles traveling on Galle Road are expected to enter the priority lane near the Savoy Cinema, Wellawatte, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., proceeding towards Colombo Fort along Galle Road.
Another priority lane rule will be enacted between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. from Maradana, Borella Junction, to Olcott Mawatha in Colombo Fort. The same lane will function as an exit lane between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
This dedicated lane will be designated for vehicles including buses operated by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), private buses, school buses, school vans, office transport buses, and vans.
During the specified times, vehicles other than those mentioned above will not be allowed to enter the priority lane.
Furthermore, the Traffic Police have been instructed to issue warnings to drivers who violate this rule during the initial adjustment period.
