President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced that there will be a pay increase for all public servants in the upcoming budget for 2023.

This assurance was given during a Cabinet meeting, as stated by sources from the Presidential Secretariat.

In addition, the President has expressed his intention to request a pay hike for private sector workers starting next year.

This move aims to provide fair compensation across both public and private sectors.

Furthermore, the President clarified that the government's decision to increase salaries is not influenced by any particular political party or group. During the Cabinet meeting, the President emphasized that the government's policy is to grant salary increments to public servants when the prices of essential goods rise. This approach aims to ensure that the increased cost of living does not burden public servants.

The President is scheduled to present the budget for the year 2023 on November 13th. This budget announcement will include further details regarding the pay increase for public servants and other relevant financial matters.
