State sector and provincial public service trade unions are preparing for an island-wide strike action on Monday (30 Oct.) to address several demands.

The trade union collective coordinator, Chandana Sooriyarachchi, announced that the strike will begin at 12:00 noon, with the main demand being an allowance of Rs. 20,000 or an increase in wages through the 2024 Budget.

Tomorrow's strike action will see the participation of development officers, management service officers, grama niladhari officers, samurdhi officers, office services, and other employees from the provincial public service sector, according to Sooriyarachchi.

In addition, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) is also planning a strike action for the following week, as confirmed by GMOA spokesman Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe.
