Sri Lanka's Finance State Minister, Ranjith Siambalapitiya, is determined to tackle tax evasion in the country.
He has emphasized the importance of implementing various measures recommended by the International Monetary Fund, such as strengthening administration, making minor reductions in tax exemptions, and actively combating tax evasion.
Dr. Siambalapitiya has drawn attention to the concerning fact that Sri Lanka had the lowest income in the world relative to its gross domestic product last year.
Despite a 50% increase in government income compared to the previous year, it is still insufficient, he emphasized.
In addition, Minister Siambalapitiya has announced plans to hire 138 Assistant Customs Superintendents and 45 Customs Inspectors through an open competition, ensuring that there will be no political interference in the recruitment process
