Tourist arrivals in August have already reached over 80% of the target set for the month, according to provisional data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority,
From August 1 to 27, a total of 123,285 international visitors arrived in Sri Lanka. With an average of 4,566 arrivals per day, it is expected that the country will end the month with around 142,000-145,000 visitors.
However, if the daily arrivals do not increase in the remaining days of the month, it is possible that Sri Lanka may fall short of the target of 149,075 set for August.
The decline in arrivals during the fourth week of August can be attributed to the end of summer holidays for schools, which marks the conclusion of the vacation period for families with children.
India remains the largest contributor to tourist traffic, with 26,227 tourists arriving during this period. The United Kingdom ranks second with 14,236 tourists, followed by China with 8,641 visitors. Other important markets include Germany, the Russian Federation, France, and Italy.
