Sri Lanka has made a repayment of $50 million to Bangladesh, marking a quarter of the $200 million loan provided by Dhaka in 2021.
According to Md Mezbaul Haque, the executive director and spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank, the first installment of the payment was received on August 17.
The remaining installment is expected to be paid by August 30, although the exact amount has not been disclosed.
Haque expressed optimism that Sri Lanka will fulfill its commitment and complete the repayment of the entire $200 million by September of this year. The loan was extended to Sri Lanka in three installments under a currency swap agreement.
The first tranche of $50 million was disbursed in August 2021, followed by a second installment of $100 million in August, and the final $50 million in September of the same year.
