Eight of the 30 spill gates at the Rajanganaya Reservoir have been opened due to heavy rainfall, with 7,884 cubic feet of water per second being released into the Kala Oya.

Meanwhile, one spill gate at the Upper Kotmale Reservoir remains open due to continued rainfall in its catchment areas, reservoir engineers said.

Two spill gates at the Upper Kotmale Reservoir had remained open until the early hours of today (22) following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas yesterday. However, one of the gates closed automatically in the early hours of this morning.

Reservoir engineers have urged residents living on both banks of the Kotmale Oya downstream of the reservoir dam to remain vigilant, warning that additional spill gates could open automatically if heavy rainfall continues in the catchment areas.
