Two spill gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened by one foot each due to heavy rainfall in the Deduru Oya river basin, in order to manage the increasing inflow of water into the reservoir.
Director of Water Management at the Department of Irrigation, Engineer H.M.P.S.D. Herath, said that approximately 1,400 cubic feet of water per second is currently being released into the Deduru Oya following the opening of the gates.
In a special notice, the Department of Irrigation urged people living in downstream areas of the reservoir and along nearby riverbanks, as well as those travelling through these areas, to remain vigilant and closely monitor water levels.
